Take Advantage from the Power of Leverage!
Trade with leverage and gain full exposure to the market with only a portion of an asset’s price. Margin trading allows you to buy more stock than you would be able normally.
Why Use Margin?
-
- Magnify your profits with leverage.*
- Low interest charges.
- No need to pay on delivery due date, only top up collateral if margin falls below 65%.
- Interest is payable to your Segregated Client Account ("RDI"), if your current trade is in profitable condition.
What are the requirements for a margin account?
-
- Have regular POEMS account with active trading activity.
- Open a margin account and sign the margin contract.
- Have good understanding of how margin works and margin rules.
- Deposit collateral worth 200 million Rupiah, in cash or securities.
- Trade on marginable securities only.
- Interest is payable at the end of each month, or at the beginning of the following month.
- Maintain positive margin equity.
*Margin trading can be profitable when your stock price is increasing. However, the magnifying effect also works the other way if the market goes against your trades. Margin trading carries a high level of risk to your capital. The value of investments can fall as well as rise and you may lose more than your initial margin payment. Trading with margin may not be suitable for all types of investors.
Some terms in margin transactions that you should be familiarized with:
-
- Collateral: Cash or shares available as guarantee in client’s margin account.
- Fund: Cash deposited by client to his / her Segregated Client Account (“RDI”)
- Borrowing: Loan provided by Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia to purchase shares in the regular market.
- Maximum Borrowing: The maximum loan provided by Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia to purchase shares in the regular market.
- Equity: The value of guarantee, which is calculated based on Valuation Factors determined by Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia, the amount of cash in investor’s Segregated Client Accounts (“RDI”), and client’s outstanding position.
- Valuation Factor (VF): The percentage value of a share’s risk, determined by Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia.
- Margin Call: Notification from Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia to a margin account client if the account falls below the specified maintenance margin requirement. A margin call means you are required to deposit more cash or securities into your margin account to maintain your positions.
- Top Up: Deposit made in cash or shares, if margin falls below 65%.
- Margin deficiency liquidation: Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia has the right to liquidate your trade positions or sell the securities used as collateral with or without prior notification to cover for margin deficiency, if the equity in your margin account falls below the maintenance margin requirement. Such liquidation is commonly known as “forced sale” in margin trading.
How is interest applied?
- Borrowing: Loan used by investors will be charged interest after T+2.
- Excess Fund: Excess fund in client’s margin account will be transferred from Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia to investor’s Segregated Client Account (“RDI”) after T+2.
(Interest can be charged at any time without prior notice)
Margin equations:
- Collateral = Fund + (Share x VF)
- Borrowing/Collateral ≤ 65%
- Equity = (Share Value x Valuation Factor) + Cash (fund) / Outstanding Position
- EQUITY negative = Margin Call
(Each customer’s margin borrowing must not exceed 65% of the total collateral)
